Finished chapter one!
It feels rather rough but at least it's done! :) I love writing settings, and my fictional Arabian kingdom is based on the Yemen-owned island of Socotra. This is a picture of the island's Dragon's Blood tree, which is found nowhere else on earth [except, of course, in my book, on the island of Biryal!]
I always feel the setting of my story helps to convey the tone, and Biryal is barren, bleak and rugged--sort of an Arabian Isle of Skye. I think it goes along with the tone of the book--this story is about two people who will go to any length to protect themselves and keep from being vulnerable--until of course, they have to! That's when the fun begins, but it's not for quite awhile yet...
