Play List
I know some writers who make a collage for each book, which is a fabulous idea if you're crafty, which I am not remotely. Yet I still like to have something for inspiration, so what I've been doing is making a playlist off iTunes for each book with songs I like listening to and capture a certain mood of the book. My playlist for my current book is somewhat similar to my last one; I can't help it, I like those songs!

So far, I have:

Found Out About You by the Gin Blossoms
Until I Fall Away by the Gin Blossoms
Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day
Murder of One by Counting Crows
I Need Thee by Jars of Clay
The Language or The Kiss by Indigo Girls
Wicked Game by Chris Isaak

All a bit angsty, a bit sad, dark, and mysterious, you might say! But listening to love songs while writing a love story would be an overdose, IMO. And you gotta love the angst.

What about you? Do you listen to music while you write, or do you need silence?

I don't listen to music, but I also don't need silence. Which is just as well because usually when I'm writing the TV is blaring in the living room, the kids are battling Darth Vader on the playstation in the playroom, and a cat is on my lap and nibbling my wrists trying to make me pay attention to her.

Sometimes I write on a knackered old laptop in the living room while the TV's on - when hubby complains I've spent no time with him.

Funny - I need quiet to be able to concentrate on the dayjob (which I also do from home), but am happy to write amidst lots of noise.

I don't need quiet at all. In fact, I hate quiet. I need something going on around me. I dont know why. The tv, the radio, my husband...something. Anything. I thrive in commotion and chaos.

My hubby on the other hand works at home a lot and can't concentrate unless he's in his office. I often pop in to say hello, give him a kiss, and bring him a drink, and he told me that even when I just do that, he's distracted for about 10 minutes after I leave. funny.
